Memorial Cup: Kaiden Guhle’s (nice) first point in his first match

It was the night that Kaiden Guhle and the Edmonton Oil Kings made their debut in the Memorial Cup. For the occasion, they encountered the Shawinigan Cataractes.

Unsurprisingly, Guhle was in the first pair of defenders for the WHL champions, while to the left of Luke Prokop.

In the early minutes of the period, CH’s hopes were shaken after the shot was blocked. However, he avoided the worst, and soon returned to the ice. He was also on the ice to score the first goal of the match, but his score the cats (On the play of power).

However, Guhle was also on the ice to score the next two goals, which he scored himself. After the Prokop net at the end of the first halfit was a beautiful pass from Guhle (which veered, however) that set the stage for Tyler Hortsmann’s goal.

First memorial cup point for Johli, then.

The Cataractes tied next, with Mavrik Bourque managing to avoid a major league check to clear the way for Xavier Bourgault’s goal. Once again, Guhle was on the ice.

Great save by Sebastian Koussa And two goals (one for each team) later, Guhle had a tough ride from Bourque, which set the stage for Olivier Nadeau’s goal.

The Oil Kings were unable to equalize then, leading to a 4-3 victory for Al Shallal. Hence, it was the first defeat for Johli and his band.

For the young CH defender, the match was not easy overall. Sure, he made a very impressive pass for his team’s second goal, but he seemed to have little difficulty managing the pressure the waterfall is causing in his area. However, there is nothing too dangerous, since everyone can play a much tougher game.

But Guhle won’t have to wait long to forget his toughest game today, as he returns to play tomorrow night against the Sea Dogs. I can’t wait to see how he responds.
