news devices VR: Latest Meta/Oculus Quest update gives us a first glimpse into the Metaverse
The new update to the most popular virtual reality glasses, the Meta (Oculus) Quest, is a step closer to the Metaverse with enhanced parental controls to better control the access of youngsters in order to reduce abuse.
If, like us, you’ve let your Oculust Quest gather a bit of dust in recent months and decide to relaunch the beast to update it, you risk getting funny and above all pretty surprises.
For our part, the last time we used the headset, it wasn’t called yet Meta Quest 2, but it’s still Oculus Quest 2. And if we’re too attached to its original name, there’s no choice, it’s okay to get used to it.
À l’époque, la fonction Air Link faisait ses grands débuts et n’était encore qu’en Bêta, le suivi des mains était disons… expérimental et on était en pleine campagne de sensibilisation à la mousse des mains et qui pou in some cases. Facebook, sorry meta, then decided to offer everyone a type of silicone condom that smells strongly of chemicals, even after 6 months…
In short, meanwhile, Mark Zuckerberg has thrown himself body and soul into his massive Metaverse project and it’s clear that the Meta Quest VR headset will be the key to entering this virtual world that fascinates as much as it worries.
With that in mind, an overhaul has been announced for “Horizon Home,” somehow Home when connected to your headphone. In the beginning there were only tables with your applications, It is now possible to enjoy your own space where you can move around and invite your friends to chat with them while enjoying the spatial sound Or watch and comment on movies or documentaries together via the Oculus TV app as if you were in the same room together.
And who better than dear Mark Zuckerberg to tell us about the new V41 update and tangibly show us the progress made by Horizon Home? We see him and climbing champion Alex Honnold watching The Soloist VR together while commenting on it. Get ready, the Metaverse is around the corner!
At the moment, it appears that the advanced functionality of Horizon Home is reserved for the US, just like the Horizon Worlds app, which has merged with Horizon Venues since June 6 there, and is expected in France for that matter hopefully. Horizon Worlds should be the centerpiece of the Metaverse in the Meta Quest, I hope it’s more interesting and has more features than Horizon Venues reviews and ratings suggest (Rated … 1.6 out of 5 by users).
Crowning the cake, it will soon be possible to purchase outfits for your avatar…we’re sure you’re looking forward to it!
Parallel to all the functions related to Horizon Home, Meta offers a whole series of tools and settings for planning and organizing the popular parental controls.
Thus, it will be possible for parents to block children’s access to certain applications, block purchases and downloads, control the time spent on the headset, see which applications they use the most, access their friend lists or even block Air Link functions so that they are not Connect to the computer.
anyways, Meta states that VR is not recommended for children under the age of 13 and that its use in adolescents between 13 and 18 years of age should be carefully supervised.
