Jan, you always have many projects. Which ones are you currently busy with?
I still have my online store, Airoldi Couture. I am open to cooperation. I would like to associate with people who are able to open doors for me in today’s market, because the difficulties multiply in terms of production. With this pandemic, making products is more complex than ever. Currently my passion is real estate. I’ve been dreaming of being a broker for years! At the time, my daughters were very young, and I didn’t consider it an ideal job for a father of young children who wanted to devote all his time to them. Now, when I tell them I have an evening visit… they are almost happy to see me leave the house! (Laugh)
Was it a long process before you achieved your dream?
Yes, because I started studying real estate before the pandemic. I loved going back to school, even if going to school was never easy… I started my face-to-face classes and finished my studies online. I better understood the difficulties my children face in online courses. Now, when I advise my daughters to study, it is not based on an experience of 30 years! That’s what I learned six months ago.
Going back to school in your late forties is quite a challenge, isn’t it?
Actually, it is, but when I have something on my mind, I am determined and keep going. With the epidemic, I created my work and by force of circumstances, I had to put aside my studies. After I studied to be a real estate broker, I finally decided to continue and study to become a commercial real estate broker. In the meantime, I’ve also explored some avenues…
Do you refer to your parentheses in politics?
Yes, I ran for town councilor at Verdun Île-des-Sœurs. If you win my election, it won’t be a full time job. It was understood that I was going to develop real estate in parallel.
Did losing your election hurt you?
no. If I had won and my whole team had won, I would have been very happy. I didn’t win, and neither did my team. It’s very good that way. I have other projects. But this experience assured me that I am comfortable with people. I went door to door and enjoyed talking to people. Rather, I would say that this experience disturbed me. People don’t know it, but at the age of 17 or 18, I was very shy… I took a path that I am most proud of. I am happy to help people through my work. I have never worked for money. If that was the case, I would have gotten another job… You have to work hard.
I assume all the services you provide on the side are part of your signature?
Yes, offer people to rate their stay. When I list a house, I also submit it home organization. I give some advice. Sometimes a simple coloring makes a big difference. I also make sure to be there during visits. I work with sellers who entrust me with their homes, but also buyers who are looking for a home. As I know Laurentians, Estrie and Greater Montreal well, I am comfortable taking care of the house, wherever it is. It is word of mouth. The Royal Lepage Excellence Banner Agents welcomed me very well.
And on the TV side, are there projects coming up?
Exactly, I did not retreat from public life: I have several decor projects for TV. If TV networks still want me, I have plenty of ideas. Fashion will always be tattooed on my heart, but I also love the decor. When we have an eye to see if a dress fits well, we can tell if the wardrobes are well balanced at home! For me, real estate isn’t a career change: it’s another aspect of me that people have to discover. I’ve always had a practical mind, both in fashion and in decor.
Among the novelties, she has adopted an adorable dog. Why at this point in your life?

Angelou is one year old. She adopted him at the request of Lily, who, since she was able to speak, wanted to have a dog … She went beyond her request to buy a hamster, a fish, etc., but it was no longer working. Then, with the pandemic, I thought it was a good idea. I am often on my own and have time to take care of a dog. However, I have to adjust my schedule: I have to always think about the dog that needs to eat, walk. Angelo is a mix of poodle and Australian Shepherd. It’s clever and a little annoying, but only with others! At home he sleeps constantly. Adopting an animal is still an important commitment. I realize that I will have to take care of her for ten years.
And do girls, for their part, continue to grow in beauty and prosperity?

Yes, they work very well. They are 13 and 15 years old. Fifth secondary school will start next year. Then it will be CEGEP. Lily is in high school two. The girls are both dancing. Everything is fine for them.
Jane, is there anything new in love?

yes. I have a blonde, Chantal, who lives in Florida. We are going to Mexico together for my niece’s wedding. We started seeing each other before the pandemic. I met her in a restaurant in Quebec. Our mutual friends introduced us to each other. Her mother is now dead, but Chantal often came to Quebec to see her. His father also lives here.
Is it difficult to manage a long distance relationship?
Yes, but we talk to each other every day. She is a very simple girl with very beautiful values. She is gracious and creative. She is a painter and a nurse. In the past, she was an airline pilot and interior designer. Let’s say she’s smart! She decided to devote herself to her art, a talent that came to her from her mother who was a painter. She has a lot of talent! I’m a designer myself, but I’m not very good at drawing. Chantal is really talented. I painted my girls and the dog: looks like a picture.
Would you say that a long-distance relationship has more advantages than disadvantages?
I didn’t want to be a full-time blonde, always be with one another. Right now we’re hooking up and every now and then she hangs out here or I’ll catch her up in Florida. Obviously, now, with real estate, I have less time to travel. For Chantal, it’s easier. When she comes to Quebec, she takes the opportunity to visit her father and sister. I am often alone. Sometimes it happens to me to find the time is long, but overall it goes well. We’ll see how things develop between us.
Does your partner have children?
Yes, she is the mother of three children. My children have already asked me to meet a woman who will have boys, that is, in order to have half-brothers … It is a coincidence, but the girls are very happy. I am glad to see that they get along well with Chantal, and Chantal get on well with my daughters. She understands our close relationship. I am generous, often forgetting myself for the sake of my children, but it makes me happy. My schedule can change quickly because my kids are asking for something from me. Me, this works for me and is not a problem for Chantal. The kids get along well, too. At Christmas, we all went to Universal Studios together: we did all the games.
I have also moved in the meantime…
It was two years ago. I have a new cabin I’m planning to renovate. I also bought myself a property that I just acquired and will use to rent it out. I’m very busy, time flies and everything is fine … but I work hard. Personally, I perform when I’m busy. I will also give lectures. I’m talking about fashion, but also decor trends. When renovating a property, it is best to renew it in a timeless manner. As Coco Chanel said well, fashion is what goes out of fashion…
